How often have you played a scene where you're riding a motorcycle that slides under a truck just before it explodes? And how often does a scene just start with two people drinking coffee?

Which type of scene would you rather play more often?

On Saturday, 16 May, Expat Improv welcomes Dutch performer and master trainer Laura Doorneweerd-Perry to Düsseldorf for a four-hour deep dive into the physical, spatial, and kinetic side of improvisation. Think cinematic energy. Movement with purpose. The kind of stage that crackles.

What You'll Work On

✓ Creating exciting action scenes on stage ✓ Using body, focus, and gaze to define space ✓ Building levels, angles, and dynamic environments ✓ Physical storytelling: movement, chases, and stage combat style play ✓ Expanding your creativity and stage presence

In this workshop we focus on the skills needed to create epic action scenes on stage. Using body awareness, spatial focus, and an eye for cinematic structure, Laura will guide participants in transforming the stage into a multi-layered environment — with movement, depth, and genuine filmic energy. No props. No set. Just intention, commitment, and the willingness to go big.

The workshop runs in plain English, with German translation available on request. It's designed for improvisers with some existing stage experience.

About Laura Doorneweerd-Perry

Laura is a Dutch performer, director, trainer, and co-founder of Flock Theatre in Amsterdam. With a background in theatre, dance, business studies, directing, and training design, she brings more than 20 years of teaching experience to every room she enters — and also trains other improv teachers.

As a performer, Laura has appeared at international improv festivals and conferences across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East — including Rapid Fire Theatre's Improvaganza (Canada), the Beijing Improv Festival (China), Dad's Garage (USA), and the Würzburg International Improv Festival (Germany).

When she's not travelling, she can usually be found cycling along Amsterdam's canals. On stage, she has a particular fondness for slow-motion running, dramatic fights, and smoking — strictly theatrical.
