What you will work on

✓ Creating exciting action scenes on stage
✓ Using body, focus, and gaze to define space
✓ Building levels, angles, and dynamic environments
✓ Physical storytelling: movement, chases, and stage combat style play
✓ Expanding creativity and stage presence

Workshop description

How often have you played an improv scene where you're riding a motorcycle that slides under a truck just before it explodes? And how often have you played a scene that starts with two people drinking coffee?

Which type of scene would you rather play more often?

In this workshop we focus on the skills needed to create epic action scenes on stage. Using body, focus, and spatial awareness, we will transform the stage into a multi-layered environment with movement, depth, and cinematic energy.

The workshop is led by Laura Doorneweerd

FIND THE FUN FASTER

Date: Saturday, 20 June
Time: 11:00–17:00
Location: Expat Improv Studio, Düsseldorf
Price: 99 €
Level: Improvisers with some experience
Language: Plain English (German translation possible)

What you'll work on

  • Identifying the "game" of a scene and learning to heighten it
  • Spotting patterns and building on the unusual
  • Using repetition to create energy and momentum
  • Edits – when to cut, how to cut, and why timing matters
  • Support moves and ensemble techniques to elevate your scene partners
  • Making every scene feel like a discovery – for you and the audience

Workshop description

In this workshop, you'll focus on identifying and heightening the "game" of each scene – the element that makes it fun and unique. You'll practice spotting patterns, playing with repetition, and building on the unusual to keep your scenes sharp, focused, and hilarious.

But great improv isn't just about the players in the scene. You'll also explore the tools that live outside it: edits – knowing when and how to cut to serve the show – and support moves, the ensemble techniques that make your scene partners look brilliant and keep the energy alive from the wings.

Learn to play smart, keep the energy up, and make every scene feel like a discovery for both you and the audience.

The workshop is led by Stacey, former Artistic Director and Director of Education at Boom Chicago Theater Amsterdam, and one of the most sought-after improv educators in Europe.
